JSS in plain terms.
JSS Academy of Technical Education has been running in Mysuru since 1997, under the JSS Mahavidyapeetha trust. It is not a Bengaluru college — the campus is on the Uttarahalli–Kengeri side of Mysuru — and that matters for families weighing commute and hostel cost. The Bengaluru–Mysuru expressway has tightened that link, but you should still plan around hostel residence.
Fee-wise this sits in the lower-mid tier. A management seat in CSE or its sister branches works out to about ₹13 lakh over four years, with Civil and Mechanical roughly half of that. JSS is one of the more affordable mid-tier options for parents who want a structured VTU-autonomous campus without Bengaluru rent piled on top.
Admission flows through three counselling channels. The fee you pay depends entirely on which one you come in through, and the trade-offs are worth a proper conversation before you apply.
Three ways in
- KCET (~45%): Karnataka domicile, KEA counselling, lowest fee bracket.
- COMEDK (~30%): Open across India, COMEDK UGET counselling — for CSE/ECE the fee is around ₹3.01 lakh per year.
- Management (~25%): Direct admission via the college, no domicile rule, slightly higher than COMEDK.

CSE, ISE and CSE (AIML) typically close by mid-July. Civil and Mechanical remain open into August.

Eligibility.
JSS uses the standard Karnataka three-channel admission model. Filing under more than one channel is the norm for serious candidates.
KCET
- Class 12 passed with Physics, Maths and one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotech or Computer Science.
- Minimum 45% aggregate (40% for SC/ST/OBC Karnataka).
- Karnataka domicile — seven years of schooling in the state.
- Valid KCET rank.
COMEDK
- Class 12 with Physics, Maths and a third science subject.
- Minimum 45% aggregate (40% SC/ST).
- Open across India.

- Around 50% aggregate, varies by branch.

What does the management seat cost for CSE?
The indicative four-year management fee for CSE, ISE, ECE and CSE (AIML) is around ₹13.07 lakh, paid as ₹3.27 lakh per year. Civil and Mechanical are notably lower at ₹5.1 lakh over four years. Verify the current fee notification with the institution.
Is the campus in Bengaluru or Mysuru?
This JSS campus is in Mysuru, on the Uttarahalli–Kengeri Road. JSS also runs JSSATE-Noida, which is a separate institute.
Is hostel mandatory?
Hostel is not mandatory but is recommended given the campus location. JSS has on-campus boys' and girls' hostels with full board.
Can I commute from Bengaluru daily?
Technically yes via the expressway, but in practice no — students and parents end up choosing hostel or a Mysuru PG. Daily commute burns out by the second semester.
